My new book Antidote will be presented on April 20th at the Fotomuseum Den Haag. The book measures 24 cm in width, 31.5 cm in height, and consists of 162 pages. It includes two essays by curator Willemijn van der Zwaan and artist AnnaMaria Pinaka, providing contextualization for my work within (art-historical) perspectives. The design is overseen by SYB (Sybren Kuiper). Due to the personal nature of my work, I am manually adding silicone to the 750 covers. This silicone wrinkles and drips, evoking the texture of skin.

The book is an exploration of the body and the psyche, wherein I present self-portraits of a performative nature. I engage in various physical experiments, such as binding my skin with wire to accentuate its soft parts or painting my body with white paint against a white background to gradually blend in. Through these performative experiments, I investigate the human body, present in all its distorted forms, and confront severe destruction by means of healing. The book is, paradoxically at times, an homage to the body and the skin, resilient entities capable of enduring much, even when the psyche falters.
